Behavioral Health FAQ

Q: How do I make a Behavioral Health appointment?

There are multiple ways to get a mental health appointment! You can select the contact us or mail icon and send us a message, call our mental health intake referral line at (650) 877-5714, or you can get a referral from your doctor. Self-referrals are always welcome!

Q: Do I need insurance?

We accept Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) Medi-CAL and Kaiser Medi-CAL for mental health services. If you do not have HPSM Medi-CAL, reach out and we can support with the application process. Even if you don’t qualify for our services, we don’t turn people away.

Q: What does it look like to start therapy at DCYHC?

Our intake coordinator will reach out to you to do a preliminary intake phone call to find out your details, insurance information, and the type of therapy you are interested in as well as answer any of your questions. The intake coordinator will then connect you with a counselor, and the counselor will reach out to you to schedule your first therapy appointment!

Q: What are my therapy options?

We have in-person and telehealth (video) appointments. Therapy is done 1x a week for about 1 hour. We offer individual, group, family, and couples counseling. We offer therapy in English, Tagalog, and Spanish.

Q: I’m a student, can I still get therapy during the summer?

Yes! However, we have fewer counselors during the summer, so reach out as soon as you are ready to come see us.

Q: Who are the counselors?

We have a robust team of behavioral health providers including Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LFMT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), and mental health interns. You can check out the team here.
